During their retreat the Platform's board focused on positioning the Platform within the changing global aid architecture. Setting a renewed foundation, board members decided on new objectives for the years to come – amongst other decisions for the future.
Taking place in Castel Gandolfo 14/15 October the board discussed what an appropriate future positioning for the Platform could be and which were the most conducive ways to achieve this – leading as a first step to an endorsement of a new objective’s statement:
The Platform actively promotes effective rural development as a central element of the international sustainable development agenda by
- Advocating with policy and decision makers
- Sharing knowledge amongst Platform members and partners and by
- Facilitating networking and cooperation with and between all relevant actors
It was decided to start an evaluation at the beginning of 2014 to help shape input for the strategic plan 2015 and beyond. Recommendations of the midterm review and the evaluation of 2008 are likely to be taken up in the planned evaluation.
The board also discussed new membership and partnership initiatives. It approved UN Women and the Belgian Development Agency (BTC) as new members, as well as International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is a new board member.
