Platform AGA__ Host required for 2013

gfarThe Platform is looking for a host for its next annual general assembly. Are you a Platform member and interested? Please contact the secretariat of the Platform.

//  Why be a host?

For a focal point the AGA provides an opportunity to showcase Platform activity at the doorstep of his/her institution, advocating for ARD-related matters and bringing in an illustrious crowd of donors and partners. For the host institution it is also the opportunity to point the attendees to other areas of their expertise and connecting individuals. Members and partners of the Platform gather at the AGA to exchange experience, discuss joint initiatives for the forthcoming year and plan ahead to address critical questions around the issues of agriculture and rural development.

The 2012 Platform AGA held in January 2013 was hosted by The Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The role of a host for the 2013 AGA is still vacant - and members are encouraged to come forward and take the lead.

Nikita Eriksen-Hamel new Platform vice-chair__ Keeping momentum

 Portrait Nikita Eriksen-Hamel

“We must keep up the momentum for food security that has been generated in the past few years and feed this into the post-2015 process to help shape the future development agenda”, these are some of the ideas that Nikita Eriksen-Hamel of the Canadian International Development Agency has expressed after he had been elected by the Platform board as new vice-chair. The senior agricultural policy advisor took over from Brian Baldwin of IFAD who had served for five years.

//  Keeping Platform momentum

Nikita is a seasoned expert in agricultural research and agricultural development issues and brings with him four years of interactive experience with the Platform. While appreciating the wide range of themes the Platform members engage in, Nikita also believes that determination and focus should be strengthened. For the year ahead, he sees a strong role for the Platform in shaping the post-2015 debate in the area of rural development, food security and nutrition.

In terms of enhanced collaboration of Platform members, Nikita would like to look at concrete means to facilitate a closer integration of knowledge networks that exist within member organisations and have the Platform’s reach expanded beyond focal points. “I want to see our younger colleagues be hooked up with one another via the Platform”, Nikita explains. “They are doing the technical work related to our different work streams. So it is them who can benefit tremendously from the Platform”.
