Policy brief_ Promoting scientific partnership for food security

Together with the Natural Resources Institute, the Platform agricultural research working group is drafting a policy brief on the G20 Conference on Agricultural Research for Development that was held in Montpellier in September 2011. The brief aims to inform Platform members of the conference proceedings including a summary of discussions, commitments/endorsements, initiatives and the outcomes of the conference.

The purpose of the brief is to provide suggestions to build support and advance the outcomes of the G20 Conference on ARD, and to maintain momentum and continuity of discussion among donors to meet the global challenges of scientific partnership for development and food security, as identified at the conference. The brief will be targeted primarily at policy practitioners and decision makers from member institutions involved in agricultural research for development.

The policy brief is scheduled for publication in December. For more information contact research working group chair This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Platform to produce policy brief on G20 research outcomes

 G20 logo

The Platform agricultural research for development working group will produce a policy brief on outcomes from the G20 Conference on Agriculture Research for Development.

The brief will zero in on the impact that can be anticipated from the G20 Conference outcomes on Platform members and their future investments in agricultural research for development (AR4D).

A sub-group of the working group on agricultural research for development is currently producing terms of reference for the brief, while searching for a possible author.

The brief is expected for publication in advance of the Platform Annual General Assembly in January 2012.

//  G20 Conference on agriculture research for development

  • Partnerships for AR4D
  • Knowledge sharing in AR4D

The conference is expected to produce a "Montpellier Declaration" for presentation at the G20 Summit in Cannes later this autumn.

Platform to co-Chair GFAR Donor Support Group

The Platform has accepted an invitation to co-Chair the Donor Support Group on the Steering Committee of the Global Form on Agricultural Research.

Chairmanship of the GFAR-DSG will be assumed by CIDA focal point Nikita Eriksen-Hamel, who also chairs the Platform working group on agricultural research for development.

The GFAR-DSG is to be vice-chaired by the European Initiative for Agricultural Research for Development (EIARD).

Chairmanship of the GFAR-DSG involves collecting and presenting donor perspectives to the GFAR steering committee, while relaying issues emerging from that forum to the broader donor community.

The Platform - and the agricultural research for development working group in particular – will act as the medium through which this liaison will be conducted.
