Supporting ARD agendas in Africa

The CAADP development partners’ task team has centred its work in 2011 on accelerating CAADP implementation at country level, particularly through support to investment plans operationalisation.

The task team has also been supporting the roll out of the CAADP Mutual Accountability Framework as reflected in the 7^th CAADP Partnership Platform in Yaoundé. It now emerges that this forum is developing into a peer accountability platform for CAADP stakeholders.

Support to private sector in agriculture development has recently attracted attention with task team’s involvement in a high-level meeting on mobilising private-sector investment in African agriculture as a special session of the recent World Economic Forum for Africa held in Cape Town in May 2011. This high-level event was the opportunity to launch the WEF’s New Vision for Agriculture Initiative in collaboration with the African Union-NPCA; with the constitution of an “African Agricultural Growth and Investment” Task Force being one of the most important outcomes.

Meanwhile, discussions have been initiated between the Platform and Nepad Planning and Coordinating Agency (NPCA) on how to broaden the scope of the Platform’s support to African agriculture beyond CAADP. Platform support to the NPCA’s Rural Futures programme, as well as collaboration on climate change and aid effectiveness are being discussed.
