Public-private partnerships for food security in Africa

 gmfusThe German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) has recently published a report on transformational partnerships that help to drive positive change for achieving food security in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The paper, titled Transformational Partnerships in Food Security in Africa: A Transatlantic Experts Group, was written in April by a transatlantic experts group on behalf of GMF. It is aimed at understanding the unique characteristics of these partnerships for scaling them up and replicating them across the Sub-Saharan Africa.

  • The US and Europe should establish a "Leadership Center for Public-Private Partnerships"
  • The US and Europe can help facilitating policy changes and public-private partnerships and expanding private entrepreneurship in agriculture
  • Land tenure and property rights need to be strengthened across Africa
  • African governments and their development partners also need to devise complementary strategies and programs to assure food security in urban areas
