Extract
Having managed, in the first quarter to strengthen the commitment of the development partners to endorse and support CAADP at both the country and REC levels, as well as to deepen ownership of the agenda by the RECs. Progress in this last quarter has been mainly in trying to keep the momentum generated by the approval of the Strategic Investment Programme (SIP) and the CAADP implementation processes that have started in a number of countries through COMESA and ECOWAS facilitation.
The Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) framework reflects the recognition of agriculture as central for the alleviation of poverty and hunger and hence for reaching the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The report highlights the progress in the time between April and June 2007 in implementing the four CAADP pillars: 1) Extending the area under sustainable land management and reliable water control systems 2) Improving rural infrastructure and trade-related capacities for market access 3) Increasing food supply and reducing hunger 4) Agricultural research, technology dissemination and adoption
