Extract

SDC provided core-support to PNS (around 300’000 USD/year) in order to allow for maximum effects on institutional strengthening. Increasingly development assistance was targeted to poorer areas based on the poverty map elaborated as a basis for the first PRSP while maintaining the unity of the PNS which also serves large farms in the Bolivian lowlands. The development impact of the PNS is very significant. Over 5’000 families have found a business in seed production, of which 60% in poor regions. PNS has also allowed for a the development of a significant group of trained professionals at all levels through innovative distance learning programs (also via internet) and South-South collaboration with Brazilian universities for post-graduate studies.
