Extract
The program practiced desertification control by diversifying rural incomes. With active involvement of local population through integrative and participatory Village Land Use Planning measures, such as establishment of windbreaks and economic forest, sand dune fixation, mountain forest protection (mtn. closure) and irrigation facilities were implemented. Decisive factors for the achievement of impacts (improved land use patterns; rehabilitated vegetation, reduced wind erosion; increased biodiversity, improved incomes for local rural population, legal security for participating farmers through long-term land use rights) were a systematic monitoring, performance based payments and a transparent implementation concept. |
