Best Practice: Improving Land Degradation through Integrated Environmental Management (IEM)
Written/Published in 2007 by No specific author

Extract

Poverty and rapid economic growth have put immense pressure on natural resources in the People's Republic of China (PRC), particularly since the early 1980s.  There is now increasing awareness to conserve natural resources on a sustainable basis in the long run. Integrated Ecosystem Management (IEM) strategies/action plans are being developed, bringing together a summary of the legal/policy work as well as the institutional and technical work.  The process, as well as the results of the strategies/action plans prepared to date, has brought much needed awareness at the highest level of the government about the benefits of IEM.
