Extract
The program substantially improved the competitiveness, quality and exportability of Egyptian citrus fruits with a sector strategy worked out with all stakeholders following the value chain. Promising citrus varieties were identified, phytosanitary capacities established, certification schemes and licensing mechanisms for nurseries to improve product competitiveness, quality and exportability introduced. Monitoring data of CIP shows that by the year 2006 the private nurseries cooperating with the program will be supplying 40% of the local demand with improved planting material (1.6 million trees p.a). |
