Extract

The programme's objective was to improve the living conditions of the roughly 45,000 people living in thr Dogon plateau in southeastern Mali through increased agricultural production and improved market access. The programme has significantly contributed to promoting self help initiatives among rural communities. The decentralised approach helped the population to built and rehabilitated the rural roads and paths with their own manpower. This make it easier for the farmers to reach the markets to sell their produce. The programme can be (and has been) used as a model for similar programmes in other regions.
