Tackling rural poverty, together

COMESA, WWF and NEPAD have developed a Climate Change Initiative aimed at promoting best approaches for mitigation and adaptation to Climate Change in the region. It is believed that the rapid emergence of the global carbon market provides new opprtunities for African landscapes and livelihoods. COMESA is working to develop the needed institutions, policies, and technologies to connect communities in East and Southern Africa with carbon finance opportunities.

This meeting aims specifically at identifying options for the organisation of a carbon finance facility in the COMESA region. The meeting will also consider carbon readiness, environmental and social standards, and platforms for community participation. It is expected that the meeting will be attended by representatives of COMESA mebers states, private sector financial institutions, development partners, carbon trading firms, offset purchasers, and project developers.
