Invitation for Comments: Formulating and Implementing SWAps in ARD

The Platform invites its members to comment on the present draft of the study pdf.png'Formulating and Implementing SWAps in ARD' until September 7th. The final report is expected for mid-October.

The Global Donor Platform for Rural Development commissioned the present study to examine the formulation and implementation experience of sector-approaches in A&RD and to identify any key lessons for improving the way in which development assistance is currently supporting SWAps or A&RD more generally. This synthesis report prepared by the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) brings together material from seven country studies three of them in-depth field based investigations (Tanzania, Mozambique and Nicaragua) and four lighter-touch desk-based reviews (Uganda, Cambodia, Vietnam and Ghana).

 

 
AUC confirms CAADP PP in September

Regarding the upcoming CAADP Partnership Platform Meeting in Addis September 25-28: Under the leadership of the AUC, some important agreements were taken to organize the event, namely the establishment of two Task Forces: one to establish a joint Evaluation Framework with AUC, NEPAD, APF Secretariat and development partners, the other on Terms of Reference for the CAADP PP.

Platform facilitates the formulation of minimum standards for ARD programmes

During the First European Forum on Rural Development Cooperation which was held in Montpellier in September 2002, participants called for a Code of Conduct for donors supporting agriculture and rural development programmes (ARD) in order to ensure improved coordination and more effective outputs of these programmes.

FARA and donors join forces in advancing CAADP’s pillar 4

The Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) – being the apex organisation for coordinating agricultural research and development in Africa – has been recently asked by the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) to be the technical arm to advance the objectives of pillar 4 of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme CAADP (see box at right for more information on CAADP Pillar 4).

FARA is now joining forces with a wide range of development partners in the soon-to-be-created FARA Development Partner Group.

On March 29-31, the first National Compact of the Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP) was signed in Kigali, Rwanda, by the Rwandan Ministries of Agriculture and Finance, the Africa Union, COMESA and national development partner representatives.
