About Us

The Platform was born from the recognition that, in a world of competing development agendas and limited funding, no single agency can address all the needs of the rural poor. Consequently, our activities and publications are drawing from the manifold resources of our Full Member and Associate Member Organisations – constituting a truly international and multilateral initiative. This alliance of complementary strengths, skills and experience is also reflected in our organisational structure and laid down in our PDF to download Charter.

Currently we are building on the experiences and knowledge of 9 Full Member Organisations, 21 Associate Member Organisations and 8 Partners.

Membership in the Platform is voluntary and open to all donor countries, development agencies, multilateral organisations, international finance institutions and foundations working in the field of agriculture and rural development and only requires approval by the Platform Board.

Our activities are supported through either financial and/or in-kind contributions by our Members.

Financial contributions of a minimum of 50.000 Euro per year qualify for full membership and a seat in the Platform Board.
In-kind contributions or financial contributions of less than 50.000 Euro per year qualify for associate membership.

Financial contributions are handled in the Platform Trust Fund which is administered by GTZ. All budget allocations for activities are managed by the Platform Secretariat in accordance with the annual work plan endorsed by the Board.

Partnership with the Platform is open to other donor platforms or networks, farmers’ organisations, international or regional research institutions, civil society organisations and regional networks which share a common interest with the Platform.

Focal Points

Each of our Full Member and Associate Member Organisations appoint a Focal Point who is representing and speaking on behalf of his/her organisation within the Platform network, actively participating in the formulation of joint policies, the exchange of relevant experiences and knowledge in the field of agriculture and rural development. The Focal Point may also speak on behalf of the Platform at international events and within their respective organisations.

All Focal Points are connected through the Platform Secretariat — ensuring an effective exchange of information and a continuous communication flow and consequently forming an alliance of complementary strengths, skills and experience.

Currently, we are building on the knowledge and experience of the following organisations, institutions and networks and its respective Focal Points:
