The rising investments in agriculture, the evolving donors and partnership opportunities in ARD sector are setting the framework for the Platform Annual Meeting of 2007 in Paris. The Platform members, associates and selected guests will come together on 12-13 December, 2007 to reflect on the progress of the last year and discuss the challenges and opportunities for the coming year.
Agriculture is back on the agenda: seizing the opportunity is the title of this year’s meeting. Starting with this positive note Mark Cackler (WB) will present the central findings of the World Development Report 2008 “Agriculture for Development” and discuss their implications with Wayne Jones (OECD). After setting the general framework, the Platform members will elaborate on how the Platform reacts to this trend and what the next steps are.
Evolving alliances for rural poverty reduction in the light that new players emerge with a similar goal to reduce rural poverty is another key topic of the meeting. This session will reflect how the Platform as a global network of 29 members makes partnerships to fight the rural poverty more effectively. Guest speakers from foundations Dr. Akin Adesina (AGRA), partner governments Dr. Minh (Vietnam) and representatives of development cooperation will discuss how we can build on complementarities making use of each others’ strength and resources.
On the second day the CoC Task Force together with Mr. Hubert de Milly (OECD DAC) will present the rationale for the Donors’ Code of Conduct in ARD under the new aid architecture. The discussions will centre on the further application of the joint principles.
Last but not least the meeting will reflect on the Platform governance structure and the role of the focal points in the framework of the revised charter. At the end of the meeting action points will be summarised from the whole meeting to shape the platform action plan for 2008.
