Apply now! The Global Development Marketplace (DM2008) was launched on the January 22, 2008 with a volume of US$4 million under the theme Sustainable Agriculture for Development and targets agricultural challenges such as linking small-scale farmers to markets, improving land access for poor farmers, and promoting the environmental services of agriculture in addressing climate change and biodiversity conservation.
The World Bank's Development Marketplace is a competitive grant programme that identifies and funds innovative, early-stage projects with high potential for development impact. DM global competitions are held every 12-18 months and are administered by the World Bank and supported by various partners. Out of a diverse pool of applicants -- notably civil society groups, foundations, academia and development agencies -- 30 will be awarded a grant of a maximum of US$200,000. The proposals will be accepted through March 21, 2008.
Members of the Global Donor Platform for Rural Development are invited by Mark Cackler, Acting Sector Director, Agricultural and Rural Development of the World Bank and Hans-Martin Boehmer, Manager of the Development Marketplace Team to allocate additional funds, to participate in the upstream assessment of the proposals or join the international jury.
This is a unique opportunity to turn your innovative ideas for sustainable agriculture in developing countries into reality. A 2003 award winner visualises his thoughts with the words: “Without Development Marketplace funding, we’d still be in our infancy. Now we can fly.”
