Tackling rural poverty, together

The Platform’s work has so far focused on the achievement of MDG 1 which targets poverty and hunger reduction. In the last few years, the central importance of natural resource management to agricultural development and most recently, the implications of climate change, have become apparent. These issues underpin the achievement of MDG 7 — to ensure environmental sustainability. They are particularly important for agriculture in terms of ensuring that the principles of sustainable development are integrated into national policies and programmes, reversing the loss of environmental resources and reducing biodiversity loss.
