The European Commission has adopted a €394 million package of projects to support agriculture and food security in developing countries.
The move on April 29 marked the second financing decision taken in the framework of the €1 billion Food Facility.
Adopted last December amid growing concern over rising food prices, the Food Facility will operate for three years (2009–2011) and support agricultural sector projects in 23 developing countries.
Projects applicable for support under the Facility include measures to improve access to agricultural inputs, raise productivity, and strengthen social safety nets for vulnerable populations.
Funding generated by the Food Facility will be channelled through international organisations, NGOs and the Private sector.
