About REED
In 2002, a number of international and bilateral development organisations launched a learning process about approaches to rural economic development. The focus was on agriculture-based enterprise development.
Representatives from donors, agencies and national governments, field-level practitioners, the private sector and NGOs were involved. Considerable potential for efficiency gains were identified, especially with regard to cooperation between organisations and across different disciplines and backgrounds. The process finally led to the joint development of an analytical framework for Rural Economic and Enterprise Development – REED. It is based on an analysis of the success factors in rural economic development and lessons learned.
The Guide to Rural Economic and Enterprise Development was prepared by a multi-donor/agency working group in order to share these experiences.
This guide is now also available in French
Guide pour le Développement de l'Économie et des Entreprises Rurales
And it is available in Spanish
