Platform goal
To reduce poverty by promoting economic growth in rural areas of developing countries.
Mission Statement
We are committed to achieving increased development assistance impact and more effective investment in rural development and agriculture.
Situation
In a world of competing development agendas and limited funding, no agency can single-handedly address all the needs of the rural poor.
Approach
We want to actually move beyond mere information-sharing schemes to foster real donor harmonisation and alignment through improved coordination.
Our activities and publications are drawn from the manifold resources of our member organisations and constitute a truly global and multilateral initiative. This alliance of complementary strengths, skills and experience is also reflected in our organisational structure.
Structure
The Platform's main decision-making body is the Platform Board. The Steering Committee’s main responsibility is to guide and supervise the day-to-day activities of the Secretariat, which is the management unit of the Platform, located in Bonn/Germany, managed by the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ).
Currently, we are building on the knowledge and experience of 10 full member organisations and 23 associate members. Each member appoints a focal point to represent the organisation within the Platform network. The Platform engages in partnerships with eight research institutions, global and regional networks and global initiatives in agriculture and rural development. |
