foodsecurityportal.org, facilitated by IFPRI, provides comprehensive, detailed information on food policy developments country-by-country. It is designed as a structured info pool of various international and regional organisations to check for data quality and relevance.

Currently, the site contains critical food crisis response information on 20 partner countries - mostly from sub-Saharan Africa as well as Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean. It will be progressively expanded to include additional countries and offer a research-based capacity-strengthening tool box to guide country responses and a provision for advice on urgently needed policy actions where needed.

The actual Food Security Portal was launched in Rome/Italy on 26 January 2010 at the Global Donor Platform Annual General Assembly. IFPRI had then presented the idea and the need for having a portal on food security for responding to the food crisis at the country level.
