// Strengthening resilience in agriculture and rural development
... is the overall theme of the two-day 2011 AGA in Berlin, which will bring together the 34 Platform members of bilateral and multilateral donors, international financing institutions, intergovernmental organisations and development agencies. Also invited are partners and friends of the Platform and political decision-makers active in the wider arena of food security and agriculture.
The AGA will be opened with a keynote by David Nabarro, Coordinator of UN High Level Task Force on the Global Food Security Crisis and Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Food Security and Nutrition. This will be followed by an expert panel discussion on the lessons learned from crises around the globe by the international community, with case-studies presented on the Pakistan flood crisis, needs of vulnerable people, Horn of Africa crisis and Latin America.
World café sessions will promote an interactive exchange of experiences between the member organisations and partners and will focus on what individual Platform members, in partnership with others, are doing to help strengthen resilience in ARD. Break-out groups on the second day will offer four topics: 'climate-smart agriculture', 'food price volatility', 'setting priorities for agricultural production and food security' and 'aid effectiveness'. These working groups will discuss concrete steps that the members can take together to strengthen resilience in agriculture and rural development.
