European Development Days 2020

Global | | Brussels, Belgium

This year's European Development Days (EDD), Europe’s premier forum for international cooperation and development, will take place on 9 and 10 June 2020 in Brussels, Belgium. The title of this year’s event is "The Green Deal for a Sustainable Future".

Organised by the European Commission, the European Development Days (EDD) bring the development community together each year to share ideas and experiences in ways that inspire new partnerships and innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges. The EDD is a participatory programme.

For its fourteenth edition, the EDD will be built around “The Green Deal for a Sustainable Future”. The interdependence of humans and nature lies at the core of sustainable development.

Biodiversity and resilient ecosystems are crucial for the human well-being, as they support livelihoods, enhance food and nutrition security, enable access to water and health and contribute significantly to climate change mitigation and adaptation. Therefore, activities aimed at ensuring a sustainable green transition and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals are crucial for maintaining and improving the health of our planet, while at the same time contributing to socio-economic development.

The EDD 2020 agenda will be framed by two major themes emerging as key priorities in today’s current context: A Green Economy for Nature and People and Protecting Biodiversity and People.

The programmme of the 2020 European Development Days (EDD) is now open for submissions. Submissions close already on 21 February 2020, 1 PM (CET).

The European Commission is inviting young people from around the world to play an active role in this year’s EDD. Seventeen extraordinary young people aged 21-26 are invited to represent the powerful impact that youth are having in the sustainable development field. The Young Leaders Programme will consist of a 10-day visit to Brussels, where Young Leaders will meet EU experts, stakeholders and play a leading role in the EDD Programme, which will include speaking in various session alongside global leaders.
