The Rural Youth Thematic Working Group of the Global Donor Platform for Rural Development will hold a side-event on 19 November 2019 at the Skylight hotel in Addis – Ababa, Ethiopia from 08:30hr -14:30hr (EAT). The event, titled "Rural youth and decent jobs creation in food systems" will be held back-to-back to the Youth Entrepreneurship and Self-Employment (YES!) Forum 2019 along the side-lines of the World Export Development Forum (WEDF) and the Africa Industrialisation Week (18 – 22 November) also being held in Addis – Ababa, Ethiopia.
The half day interactive event will bring together different perspectives from youth representatives, donors and government representatives to critically examine constraints that impede decent job creation in food systems in Africa and will go on to provide insights on how opportunities for decent jobs for rural youth can be supported. Drawing on the consensus that addressing challenges faced by rural youth requires practitioners and decision makers to continuously listen and engage with young people and bring them aboard the decision making process, the side-event will create a platform for open strategic discussion between youth representatives from different parts of Africa, donors and international development agencies. Together in an interactive event, they will begin to develop concrete strategies that can facilitate the creation of decent jobs for rural youth in Africa.
