Responsible Land-Based Agriculture Investments [ID: 250]

Responsible Land-based agricultural investments

The Global Donor Working Group on Land endorses the Analytical Framework for Land-Based Investments in African Agriculture, as committed by the New Alliance Leadership Council in 2014.

One of the priorities for the Global Donor Working Group on Land is to support the private sector in complying with the VGGTs. Under the leadership of Grow Africa, the New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition, and several members of the Global Working Group on Land, including FAO, DFID, BMZ, and USAID, the Analytical Framework for Land-Based Investments in African Agriculture was released in 2015.

The Framework is a tool to help investors better understand risks related to land-based investments and manage them responsibly. It is designed to help investors identify practical steps to align their policies and actions with global best practices and relevant international guidelines, such as the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure (VGGT) and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (also known as the Ruggie Principles, named after UN Special Representative on business & human rights John Ruggie, and endorsed by the UN Human Rights Council in June 2011), and the African Union’s Guiding Principles on Large-Scale Land Based Investments.
