AI and Data for Decision-making

Artificial Intelligence (AI) will reshape development cooperation and agrifood systems alike.

AI presents two strategic dimensions for donors:

  1. Sector Transformation – How AI can accelerate sustainable, equitable and climate-resilient agrifood transitions.
  2. Portfolio Effectiveness – How AI can improve monitoring, evaluation, learning, and strategic portfolio management.

Donors need clarity on opportunities, risks, governance implications, and investment priorities. As an agile, informal and non-political coordination space, the Donor Platform is best suited to host conversations on a transformative technology that evolves at unprecedented speed, ensuring that AI becomes a tool not of exclusion but of empowerment, resilience, and food security for rural communities.

This workstream is championed by Alessandra Roversi, Programme Officer, Food Systems, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
