What We Do
Our work sits at the intersection of a set of critical global issues that have a profound impact on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and longer-term human prosperity and security. The Platform strives towards these goals by convening donor organizations that make substantive investments in agriculture, rural development and food systems, to exchange information, discuss emerging priorities and determine effective strategies.

Strategic Objectives
The Platform has three distinct yet complementary strategic objectives that recognize the catalytic role of the Platform in informing donor policy, programming and investment in food systems and rural development.
Help shape the thinking, policies and programming of the global donor community on food systems and rural development to accelerate progress towards the SDGs and longer-term prosperity and sustainability.
Broker the sharing of evidence, lessons, insights and technical expertise necessary for donors to align efforts, learn from each other and improve the impact of their food system and rural-development related policies and programmes.
Strengthen networking, relationships and communication between donors and other actors as a foundation for collaboration and innovation.
A Focus on Food Systems Transformation
In recent years, there has been a growing recognition that the way we produce, distribute and consume food is critical to the health of people and our planet. Current systems leave many under- or ill-nourished, contribute to environmental degradation, and accelerate global warming.
We need a food systems transformation. Recognizing this, the GDPRD now takes a food systems approach to its vital role in achieving better outcomes for rural people in developing economies.
Here is a timeline showing the GDPRD’s strategic shift to focus on what we must do to reshape systems agenda and achieve SDG2 (zero hunger).
