Throughout 2022, the Thematic Working Group on Rural Youth Employment (TWG RYE) will be following the policy convergence process towards the development of policy recommendations in the Committee of World Food Security (CFS) on Promoting Youth Engagement and Employment in Agriculture and Food Systems, which initiated. at the 49th CFS in October 2021. The process builds on the High-Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE) Report from June 2021.

The Zero Draft for the Policy Recommendations was released in January and received feedback from 18 countries in addition to other stakeholders in March 2022. The TWG has worked to provide consolidated feedback to the zero draft, by gathering inputs from its members. As the topic is at the heart of the Working Group’s mandate, members were encouraged to provide their own inputs on the document as well. Input from youth and youth organizations would be of particular importance for this process and needs to be encouraged by all members and their networks.

The group will continue to follow this policy convergence process until the final policy recommendations will be launched at CFS 50 in October 2022. The next step in the process is the first draft of the recommendations, which will be shared on 15 April.
