The global crisis generated by the Covid-19 pandemic is hindering progress towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in those critical areas where – as shown by the United Nations’ 2020 report on the SDGs – progress was already limited.

Poverty, hunger, inequalities, environmental degradation are on the rise, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

This document identifies the thematic and sectoral priorities referred to the Sustainable Development Goals and Targets that the Italian Cooperation intends to contribute to achieve in the three-year period 2021-2023.It contains the geographical priorities and objectives of action in the various areas of application, such as humanitarian aid, multilateral and bilateral cooperation, participation in the cooperation programmes of the European Union. It also defines the objectives of action to follow up on the recommendations contained in the Report of the “Peer Review” of Italy held in 2019.

Priority will be given to initiatives aimed at promoting ecologically sustainable agriculture, improving access to clean water, granting affordable and sustainable energy systems, quality education, decent work, gender equality and empowerment of women.
