2023 was a milestone year for the Global Donor Platform for Rural Development.

Cover of the GDPRD 2023 Annual Report

The year 2023 marked the Donor Platform’s 20th anniversary and the report highlights the activities and results in catalysing change and harmonizing impact.

Focus Areas:

  • Sustainable and blended financing for SDG 2: We explored innovative ways to bridge the funding gap for food systems transformation.
  • Donor coordination: We fostered collaboration among donors for a more unified approach to food security challenges.
  • Better data for food systems and rural development: We explored ways to collaborate on building robust data systems to inform effective policy and investment decision-making.

Looking Back, Moving Forward

The 2023 Annual General Assembly (AGA) in Rome provided an opportunity to reflect on the evolution of the aid and development effectiveness landscape over the past two decades. Discussions focused on critical themes such as food systems approaches, donor coordination, sustainable finance, land governance, and rural youth employment.

Our working groups on land governance, rural youth employment, and the SDG 2 Roadmap continued to be valuable forums for dialogue, exchanging ideas, developing joint strategies, and shaping development policies.

Communication and Collaboration

The GDPRD website has become a rich resource centre and includes an expanded Food Systems Recommendations Database. This digital transformation continues with the launch of this year’s paperless annual report, making all GDPRD publications 100% digital moving forward.
