The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2026 (SOFI) has been published, addressing the Cost of a Healthy Diet, a crucial factor in achieving SDG2 goals worldwide.

The UN system’s flagship report, the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2026 (SOFI) was launched. The report tracked progress on the latest assessments toward SDG2 goals. While fundamental metrics related to hunger, such as global food security, are gradually improving, nutrition-related indicators are stalling. In particular, the Cost of a Healthy Diet (CoHD) is increasing, even though this indicator is crucial to achieving SDG2 goals worldwide.

SOFI 2026 evaluates the current challenging situation and explores the structural causation of this pressure on CoHD. Consequently, it emphasizes the importance of coordination, targeted multisectoral interventions, strengthening food systems, and pivoting from subsidizing to investing in value chains. These strategies aim to build resilience and ensure equitable access to healthy diets by lowering structural costs and avoiding hidden costs of agrifood systems.
