The Global Donor Platform for Rural Development, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the Agroecology Coalition and Compassion in World Farming, are co-organizing a side event “Financing and Implementing One Health for Sustainable Agrifood Systems Transformation: Aligning Investments for Integrated Action”, to be held during the FAO Global Conference for Actions on One Health in Agrifood Systems.
Agrifood systems face interconnected human, animal, plant and environmental health challenges, yet financing and implementation often remain fragmented across sectors. Strengthening One Health requires structured and aligned financing that supports cross-sectoral interventions such as agroecology, animal health services, antimicrobial resistance reduction, disease surveillance, and sanitary and phytosanitary systems— core investments for resilient agrifood systems and for safeguarding food safety, trade, and public health.
This side event will explore how different actors can mobilize, leverage and channel resources—including through joint programming, multi-donor platforms and alignment with national investment plans—to scale effective One Health implementation in agrifood systems. Agroecology will be used as a practice-based example to illustrate how financing instruments can enable integrated approaches on the ground and address barriers such as limited funding access, insufficient financial tools and misaligned incentives.
